It was literally love at first sight when first-time buyers Cally Young and Shane Morgan visited the three-bedroom Keats show home at Lovell Homes’ Oakfield Grange development in Cwmbran.

And when they saw the value for money offered by Oakfield Grange, the couple quickly decided it was the ideal place to buy their first home together.

Shane [24] and Cally [24], who were each previously living with their parents, are delighted to be the owners of a spacious  three-bedroom detached home – the same house style as the development’s show home  – with a generous amount of parking.

The couple took advantage of the the Help to Buy – Wales* equity loan scheme, allowing them to buy their home with a five per cent deposit and a 75 per cent mortgage with the remaining 20% coming from an equity loan provided by the Welsh Government.

Dream home becomes affordable with Help to Buy - Wales

“Help to Buy – Wales helped us make our dream home affordable,” says Cally. “We have always liked the idea of living on a private estate and love that the development has enabled us to buy a detached house with a three-car driveway. This was something that wouldn’t have been possible at the other new-build developments we visited when we were house-hunting. We also found that the specification offered by Lovell Homes gave us many more fittings as standard – including things that would have been charged as ‘extras’ at other developments we visited.

“Originally our house-hunting was concentrated on older properties but as time went on, we started looking at new-build developments. When we viewed the Keats show home at Oakfield Grange, we fell in love with it instantly.

“We’ve been able to move into a home with a lot of space, it’s the perfect size for the two of us, but also gives us room for starting a family in the future. We also love how big the garden is compared with other new-builds.”

The couple, who moved in during December 2018, are fans of the large, light-filled, living room (with French doors to the garden); their modern kitchen with integrated appliances and having an en-suite to their bedroom.

Moving to Cwmbran has also enabled them to be near to their families, with Cally’s parents living in Pontypool and Shane’s family based in Newport. Cally, who grew up in Cwmbran, is particularly pleased to have returned to her home town.

Their move means that both are now very close to their jobs with machine operative Shane working nearby in Llantarnam and NHS procurement specialist Cally part of the team delivering the new critical care hospital under construction in Cwmbran.

“We are so near to the centre of Cwmbran that there are plenty of things to do in the evenings and at weekends,” says Cally. “This is a great development, with a very helpful sales team, who guided us through the entire process. I can’t recommend Lovell Homes enough, we are truly grateful for all the support we have received from when we reserved our home up to the present, when we are a few months into living in our first home.”

Oakfield Grange’s two-, three- and four-bedroom homes feature high-quality living space appealing to first-time purchasers and young professionals as well as families and downsizers. The development is just 15 minutes by car from Newport and 30 minutes from Cardiff, while central Bristol is a 45-minute drive. Convenient access to the M4 – avoiding the need to go through the Brynglas tunnels – make Oakfield Grange an even more attractive spot for commuters. For train travellers, Cwmbran railway station is within a mile-and-a-half of the development.

The final phase of homes has now been released at Oakfield Grange and current availability includes the two-bedroom Austen home with parking, a great starter home for those looking to get onto the property ladder from £179,995, a three-bedroom detached Keats family home, with parking, starting from £225,995. The detached three-bedroom Chaucer and Dryden house styles, with a garage and parking, start from £234,995 for a Chaucer and £250,995 for a Dryden. The four-bedroom detached Hardy and Gaskell with garage and parking are spacious family homes, starting from £305,995 for a Hardy and £298,995 for a Gaskell.
