A couple from Merthyr have purchased a brand-new home with the Government-backed Help to Buy - Wales scheme at Lovell Homes’ Ymyl Yr Afon development, situated off Golwg Yr Afon.
Abby Jones, 18, and Travis Challener-Morgan, 19, along with their pet cat named Molly and Jack Russel puppy named Missy, recently moved into their new home at the popular development in Merthyr.
Previously living locally with Abby’s mum in a Victorian style home, Travis and Abby were ready to find a home where they could settle down and begin their life together.
The couple had saved tirelessly to be able to purchase their own house at such a young age and were able to take advantage of the Help to Buy ISA. This enabled them to save their deposit as quickly as possible, which was only 5% with the Help to Buy - Wales scheme.
The couple, who both work nearby as technical advisors, wanted somewhere they could decorate and call their own, without having to spend lots of time and money renovating. The modern finish they were after was also hard to find in pre-owned homes and the quality of a new-build was difficult to match.
The couple are currently able to run their brand-new home on less than £1.50 per day according to their smart meter and have found it to be extremely energy efficient, with very little need to use the heating at all.
Travis said: “At first I wasn’t too sure on a new-build but after lots of research and visiting the development I knew it would be the perfect home for us. It’s such a great feeling knowing that our hard work has paid off and we’re now set for life.
“We have an exciting future ahead where we will hopefully get married and have children so we didn’t want a house that would require constant maintenance.”
“The sales team at Lovell were brilliant. They provided us with so much help and information and we couldn’t have asked for a better service. We particularly liked the ‘Lovell welcome box’ we received, including packaging labels which were extremely helpful with organising our moving boxes.”
Abby added: “The Keats home-style ticked all of the boxes for us. We wanted a home that we could grow into when we do decide to start a family, but one that didn’t feel too big and empty whilst it was just the two of us.
“The garden is one of our favourite things about our new home. It was something we struggled to find when we were searching for homes but this one did not disappoint. I’m so excited to enjoy the summer months outside in our own little paradise.”
The Help to Buy – Wales scheme is available on homes up to a purchase price of £300,000 at Ymyl Yr Afon, enabling first-time buyers and those with a property to sell to make a move to a brand new home with an equity loan of up to 20% of the full price of the property with the Government with just a 5% deposit and 75% mortgage. The equity loan is interest free for the first five years.
Ymyl Yr Afon is a development of two, three and four-bedroom homes. Buyers will need to hurry as sales have been very successful at this popular development, with only two three-bedroom homes available to move into for Christmas, which are priced from £171,995.
