Trinity Walk in Woolwich achieved another important milestone this week when Councillor Denise Hyland, leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, officially opened the new affordable housing at the development.

Lovell Homes, PA Housing and the Royal Borough of Greenwich, the partners involved in delivering the £400 million regeneration scheme, hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the occasion. The guests included Councillor Danny Thorpe, deputy leader and cabinet member for regeneration and sustainability, together with senior executives from the partners.

Four pupils from nearby St Peter’s Primary School were also invited as they chose the name of the new affordable buildings: Percy Eagles Court. The area has a long and proud connection to its military history, and the name is further recognition of this. Percy Alan Frederick Eagles, a former resident of the borough, was a third engineer who died during the First World War when his vessel, SS Heron, was sunk in 1917. Major John Eldridge from the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, was also in attendance to represent the historical significance of the event.

Councillor Denise Hyland said: “We all know how incredibly difficult it has become for ordinary people to access decent housing in London. Trinity Walk has replaced a rundown development of poor quality housing with modern, fit for purpose, high quality residences. It is a demonstration of the commitment from the Council to provide not only affordable but great homes to those in most need.”

The delivery of 133 affordable homes is the latest development in the construction of Trinity Walk, the first phase of a project which is transforming three ageing estates in Woolwich to create desirable yet affordable places for city living.

Matt Cooney, chief operating officer at PA Housing, comments: “We are very proud of what has been achieved through our partnership with Lovell Homes and the Royal Borough of Greenwich. These fantastic new homes provide another opportunity for people living or working locally to buy new homes at an accessible price, made possible through the availability of affordable rent and the shared ownership scheme.”

Trinity Walk is part of the ongoing regeneration in Woolwich, which has already benefitted from new green areas, office spaces and amenities. A further boost to the area will be the arrival of Crossrail later in 2018, which will provide quicker journeys into the centre of London. With 12 services an hour, passengers from Woolwich will be able to reach Canary Wharf in eight minutes, Liverpool Street in 14 minutes and Bond Street in just 22 minutes.

Richard Vining, operations director at Lovell Homes, said: “The handover of the Percy Eagles Building is a huge achievement, made possible through the hard work and determination of the partnership to deliver this brilliant scheme in time for completions later this year. We have already welcomed the first set of new residents to Trinity Walk, and we look forward to welcoming even more.”

Prices at Trinity Walk start from £355,000 for a one-bedroom apartment. London Help to Buy is available on all homes priced under £600,000, which means that homebuyers will be able to purchase a new home with just a five per cent deposit. The government will lend 40 per cent of the home’s value through a five-year interest-free loan, so only a mortgage for the remaining 55 per cent will need to be arranged.

To visit the new showhome, visit the sales and marketing suite off Sandy Hill Road which is open seven days a week from 10am – 5pm. To bring Trinity Walk to life on your mobile or tablet, download the Augmented Reality (AR) app by visiting www.trinitywalk-woolwich.com.
