Leading developer Lovell Homes recently hosted a tour of its Ymyl Yr Afon development in Merthyr where representatives from the Welsh Government and Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association attended to see first-hand the partnership working together and the houses coming to fruition.

Ymyl Yr Afon is a collection of two, three and four-bedroom homes located between Merthyr Vale and Aberfan, with 110 available for open market sale through Lovell and a further 43 affordable homes available through Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association.

Lovell is working alongside Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council and Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association to create Ymyl Yr Afon as part of the transformation of the former Merthyr Vale Colliery site into a thriving new community.

The major regeneration programme has included the construction of a new access road, Golwg Yr Afon, and a brand-new local primary school, Ynysowen Community Primary School.

Gemma Clissett, regional partnerships director at Lovell said: “We were delighted to welcome representatives from the Welsh Government and Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association to the development and we’re thrilled at how it is taking shape.

Gerald Jones MP said: “It’s a very welcome sign of confidence in the local community that these new homes are being developed by Lovell, and Dawn and I were pleased to meet local families who are already moving into the properties as they’re completed”.

Dawn Bowden AM said: “I am pleased that the Welsh Government was able to support Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association in developing 43 affordable homes on this site, and this will be a significant contribution to meeting some of the housing needs in the area”.

Karen Courts, Chief Executive of Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association commented: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Lovell and Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council on this exciting new development that will provide 153 high quality new homes, of which 43 homes will be affordable housing for rent.”
