St Jeromes development in Beswick supports construction stars of the future

Lovell Homes’ St Jeromes development in Beswick, Manchester, has donated a selection of timber for students in the construction department of Manchester College to put to good use.

With the build of St Jeromes, the final phase of The Way, now complete, Lovell Homes’ buying team contacted the college to see if the excess materials from site could be utilised by apprentices to help develop their skillset.

The donation consisted of 1500 metres of skirting board, 2000 metres of architrave plus plywood, damp proof membrane and other building materials, all of which will go towards the students projects within the joinery department.

The connection between Lovell Homes and Manchester College has been strengthened further by an apprentice from the college working for the housebuilder on its sites in Greater Manchester.

Chris Wright, Assistant Principal at The Manchester College, said: “The donation will benefit the department massively and the students have been thrilled to hear of the support from Lovell Homes. “We have a lot of hardworking students and this is a wonderful example to be led by. A huge thank you to the labourers for stopping by.”

Bruce Shillitoe, buyer for Lovell Homes said: “It’s incredibly important to Lovell that we create a lasting legacy at all the projects we work on, building sustainable practice into everything we do. “We’ve donated construction materials to Manchester College in the past, it’s great to support future talent and to help equip students with the right skills to forge a successful career in the industry. We’re constantly looking into additional ways we can support support the local community and hope that we can continue to work with the College and their apprentices on all our sites in the area.”

As well as The Way, Lovell has a number of developments currently on site in Greater Manchester, including Weaver Park, which is the latest phase of the much sought-after Platting Village. Offering a selection of 2-bed apartments and 3 and 4-bedroom homes on the edge of the city centre, Weaver Park offers city centre living for a fraction of the price.
