Lovell Contributes Play Area and Commemorative Bench to Weston

NATIONAL HOUSING developer Lovell Homes is celebrating the opening of its Weston Woods children’s play area with the unveiling of a commemorative bench to mark the housebuilder’s continual commitment to leaving a legacy for local communities.

In a celebratory event – held on Friday 12 November a

nd attended by councillors and the Lovell site team – the play area and friendship bench were unveiled at the Weston Woods development, which Lovell started works on in 2019. The bench features a plaque that commemorates Joseph Wood – a local 

Weston who was killed in World War I while serving in the Cheshire Regiment.

Anne-Marie O’Doherty, regional sales manager at Lovell Homes, said: “We are thrilled to open the play area for public use and unveil this commemorative bench in honour of Joseph Wood.

“The development is a fantastic place for kids to play, explore, and learn, with the play area and friendship bench being a welcome addition to the site for the entire community to enjoy.

“During the development lifecycle, we aim to ensure that the needs of the wider community are understood and met through implementing long-lasting social value initiatives. We hope these two additions will be of enjoyed and used by the Weston community for a long time to come.”

The opening of the play area and plaque unveiling was coordinated in partnership with Weston and Basford Parish Council.

John Densem, chair of the Weston and Basford Parish Council, said: “We are delighted to  unveil the bench dedicated to Joseph Wood, as well as opening the play area - which we hope families across Weston will enjoy making memories at for many years to come.

“Joseph is an important figure in this village’s history and will be forever remembered for his service and sacrifice during WWI, with this bench dedicated in his memory.”
