Getting it White! Trainee shines with Doncaster housebuilder

A trainee site manager from Castleford is forging a successful career in construction after securing a placement with Lovell Homes at its Willow Grange development at Lakeside, Doncaster.

After graduating from Northumbria University, achieving a 2:1 in Media Studies, Ryan White, 23, decided to explore another path, one in construction and enrolled in a course with Leeds College of Building. In conjunction with Level 5 Construction Management, he began learning practical skills with Lovell Homes.

Over the last few months, Ryan has been working hard to hone all the tricks and tips of the trade. Some skills Ryan has taken on board include understanding site surveying procedures and energy utilisation and efficiency. With high hopes of attaining distinction grades across the course, Ryan is more determined than ever to focus and climb the ladder to a successful career in construction management.

With another 12 months of studying left, Ryan is striving to extend his knowledge further, he hopes to use the rest of his time at college to learn all there is about construction environment and departments. By the end of his course he wishes to be one step closer to his aspiration of progressing as high as possible within an operations team.

Leading housebuilder, Lovell Homes has been a significant part of Ryan’s journey in construction, and he has loved every second working with the company, he said: “I’ve made a fantastic decision coming to work with Lovell Homes. I am very grateful for all the experience I gain here.

Ryan’s hard work is paying off and he is definitely making a good impression. His assessor at Leeds College of Building, Jacob Ware, said: “Ryan has certainly been enthusiastic about his craft, he is always keen to take on extra work and learn more. He is a pleasure to teach and definitely a model student.”
