ANCOATS APARTMENT OFFERS BEST OF BOTH WORLDS FOR NATURE-LOVING DESIGNER

WORKING as a busy creative textile designer from both a studio and at home, Rohit Bedi, 36, wanted his own space that could support his professional and personal lifestyle. Manchester’s bustling Ancoats neighbourhood was the perfect place to make his first purchase.

He found his dream home in the Clifton apartment at Lovell Homes’ The Gateway, which became a reality with the support of a number of helpful incentives.

Flexible working and living

After previously renting in Macclesfield, Salford, Sale and Longsight, Rohit wanted to move away from living in rented property and instead find a space that he could turn into his own.

Rohit said: “I preferred not to renovate, if possible, to alleviate the stress that comes with moving to a new home, particularly as a single first-time buyer. This led to me looking for a newly built space that could meet my personal and professional needs.”

Currently working at a Cheshire-based design studio, it was important for Rohit to live close to Manchester city centre but he also needed somewhere safe and secure to park his car so he could make his weekly commute.

Rohit said: “I like environments that are surrounded by water, so I had considered moving to an area like Salford Quays in the past – but when I visited Ancoats and discovered that New Islington Marina was just a ten-minute walk away, it offered the best of both worlds. In Ancoats, I knew that I could benefit from the calming natural environment while also being close to the city centre. This was a key feature I was looking for, to help enhance my wellbeing and maintain a healthy work-life balance.”

Finding the perfect home

During the search for a new home, Rohit discovered a lot of the other properties on the market didn’t meet his criteria for lack of feeling homely. This all changed when he visited The Gateway.

Rohit said: “I had looked at high-rise apartments near the city centre but they didn’t feel quite right. I soon realised I wanted somewhere that offered the characteristics of an apartment but also provided that homely feel of a townhouse.

“I first became aware of the apartments at The Gateway through Lovell’s online ads posted on a property search website. After seeing the virtual 3D rendering of the space, I just had to arrange a visit to the showhome in person to see if one of the apartments was potentially for me. I was greatly inspired by the way the apartment was presented and it felt beautiful, warm and inviting. I could really see myself living and working in a space like that.

“When I discovered that purchasing an apartment would include a secure allocated parking space with an electric vehicle charging point, it was a real added bonus too. Other properties simply didn’t make is easy to accommodate for a car and if so, a parking space would be offered at an additional cost.”

Bright and multi-purpose

To suit his work routine and lifestyle, it was essential for Rohit to find an apartment that offered plenty of natural light and the option to use the space in a flexible way. He struck gold when a Lovell sales executive presented him with a plot at The Gateway that achieved exactly this.

Rohit continued: “Beyond location, other things that were important when choosing the apartment, and that I had been lacking in my current circumstances, included an abundance of natural light and flexibility in the space.

“Whether it’s either creating designs on paper, on computer, or working on samples, having lots of natural light is necessary for me as a textile designer. I was looking for a south-west facing home so that the sun could flood through the rooms during most part of the day and the plot I chose achieves just that.”

“Being a two-bedroom apartment, the space give me the flexibility to keep my workstation separate, helping me to easily switch on and off between work.”

A smooth move

Rohit was offered the opportunity to take advantage of the five percent deposit contribution scheme from Lovell. He also took the option to include an installation of carpets, blinds, and a starter furniture pack, meaning that the apartment was fully furnished when moving in.

Rohit added: “Learning about the furniture pack was a welcome surprise. It meant that I could settle into my new apartment straight away rather than worrying about making a rushed decision on purchases for my home.”

“The Lovell team was accommodating and made the process very seamless and kept me informed during the whole procedure. Thanks to their guidance, they relieved me from a lot of pressure related to the purchase as it can be overwhelming to buy your first home.

“I can’t wait to welcome my first guest and use my creative design background to turn the place into my own desirable space.”
