Forces Help to Buy
Forces Help to Buy is an extension of the government’s Help to Buy scheme. It is designed to help those in the armed forces get on the property ladder by allowing them to borrow up to 50% of their salary, interest-free.
The scheme allows members of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Air Force and Army to borrow up to £25,000, as long as they have completed enough regular service and have at least six months left when they apply.
You can use this money for any of the costs involved in buying a house, including your deposit, solicitor’s fees or estate agent charges, but not to pay off an existing mortgage.
The scheme is not open to anyone who has owned a home within 50 miles of the property they’re planning to buy, within the last 12 months.
You can apply for Forces Help to Buy online, through the Joint Personnel Administration system, or to find out more, take a look at the government’s Forces Help to Buy factsheet.
