Couple’s 26-year hunt for the ideal home ends at The Green

It’s never easy agreeing on the ideal home and for one couple, it’s taken all of 26 years to settle on the perfect property.

But now they’ve moved, Sarah and Steven Copeman are certain their brand-new four-bedroom home at Lovell’s development at The Green in Towcester, south Northamptonshire, was worth the wait.

The Copemans'

Before coming to The Green, Sarah and Steven were still living in the house in Milton Keynes which had been their first home as a young couple. “I had always wanted to move but we couldn’t find anywhere we both liked,” says Sarah. “My husband wanted a new-build and I wanted an older property; also, we couldn’t see how we could afford somewhere in Milton Keynes that would give us the space we wanted without having to take on a huge mortgage.”

Moving to a new home at The Green has enabled care home manager Sarah and postman Steven to remain in the area while at the same gain a larger home and enjoy a brilliant quality of life – and all at a price they can afford.

Sarah explains: “Previously, we had been looking at similar new-build properties in Milton Keynes which were priced at almost £100,000 more than our new home. However, although the finances were important, our decision was also about what The Green has offered us in terms of lifestyle. We’re in our 40s and wanted to be somewhere where we could be part of a community, living somewhere we could walk into town, so we weren’t reliant on our car to go everywhere, as you tend to be in Milton Keynes.

More than just a house

“The Green has given us a different way of life and we’ve embraced it. We have a smaller mortgage, a far bigger property and we’re only 15 minutes away from where we were living previously. You wouldn’t believe the lifestyle change, for us it’s not just a house, it’s so much more – our only regret is that we should have done it sooner!”

One of the things that strongly impressed the couple was the spacious living accommodation offered by their new detached, four-bedroom home, Lovell’s Hapsford house style. The couple’s previous home, where they lived for 26 years, was an ex-local authority property and, in comparison, new-build homes they’d viewed looked decidedly poky – until they visited The Green.

With three grown-up children – 26-year-old Charlie, and daughters Chelsea, 22 and Holly, 18 – Sarah and Steven needed a home that would allow all the family to have their own space. “I had originally been put off by new-builds because I felt they were too small but when it came to The Green, we were really surprised,” says Sarah. “We have four double bedrooms, a large kitchen and three bathrooms. We looked at other new-build properties which were more expensive but in terms of space and quality, they didn’t offer us anything more.”

Having moved in, Sarah and Steven are enjoying the absence of worry about maintenance that comes with a new-build home. “We sit here and can’t believe how lucky we are,” says Sarah. “We are absolutely delighted with it. It’s so different from our old house where it seemed that things always needed fixing. Here there’s no worry about upkeep, which really suits us as our lives are pretty busy.”

A perfect home for modern families, the Lemsford offers beautifully designed interiors which are both functional and attractive. The downstairs layout features an impressive open-plan kitchen / dining room with French doors leading on to the garden, while the kitchen boasts an adjoining utility room as well high-specification Bosch appliances, including hob, double oven, integrated dishwasher and integrated fridge-freezer. On the first floor is the sizeable master bedroom, with fitted wardrobe and en-suite, plus three other good-sized bedrooms and the family bathroom. The Lemsford also benefits from a garage and landscaped and turfed front garden.
