Miles Platting homes enjoy a green outlook
While work on new homes continues apace in Miles Platting, Lovell is paying equal attention to the space around the properties to ensure it’s green and sustainable for future residents.
Upon completion of the development, which is being built in a number of phases, there will be three times the number of trees on the 264-acre site as when Lovell began work, plus landscaped areas of public realm, three play areas, a revamped pedestrian network, new hedgerows, shrubs and green corridors.
The new neighbourhood, known as Platting Village, will eventually be home to 1,000 new homes and 1,500 refurbished council houses and flats and is already proving to be a highly desirable place to live. The area is being transformed beyond recognition, from one which once contained poor quality housing and derelict buildings, to a thriving community of families and professionals, close to Manchester city centre.
While 96 existing trees have needed to be removed to ensure the new layout is suitable for a safe, sustainable and modern housing development, which maximises the use of space, the first three phases have already seen around 175 new trees planted.
A spokesperson for Lovell Homes in the North West said: “Creating a layout that provides an attractive place to live but also promotes sustainability in terms of green spaces for residents to enjoy and wildlife to thrive is vitally important to the success of this regeneration project. In some areas that means starting from a blank page, and redesigning the area. Where we occasionally need to remove trees we always ensure we give back more and, in the case of Miles Platting, that is a three-fold increase in the total number of trees on site.
“We’ve given care and consideration when choosing which new trees and shrubs to include and where to plant them to create a village feel. Species were chosen which complemented the character of the area and created an appropriate habitat for the local wildlife. The result is a huge improvement overall for this area.”
Future residents of Platting Village will not only have an exciting new place to call home, they will be within easy reach of a host of local amenities including schools, Miles Platting and Ancoats Sure Start Children’s Centre, Victoria Mill and the sports facilities at Eastlands, not to mention within easy reach of the city centre.
