Latest phase of Hull regeneration under way as work starts of The Leeway 2

Work is beginning on the latest phase of a multi-million pound regeneration of the Ings area of east Hull which is being delivered by developer Compendium Living – a joint venture company set up by Lovell and The Riverside Group – in partnership with Hull City Council.

Lovell will build a £9.3 million development of 68 brand-new family homes, mostly for open market sale, on land at Finchley Close and Hammersmith Road, off Middlesex Road.

The Leeway 2 will feature 64 new two-, three- and four-bedroom houses for open market sale through Compendium Living with four bungalows for affordable rent being provided for the Together Housing Group.

“The Leeway 2 forms the latest phase of our strategic long-term partnership with Hull City Council which is transforming the Ings area with modern and attractive new homes,” says Compendium Living managing director Dave Bullock. “Following the successful completion of the first phase of The  Leeway, we anticipate our latest homes for sale will become available towards the end of 2017. The development will offer a mix of house styles and sizes with homes perfect for buyers ranging from first-time purchasers to families and downsizers.”

Cllr John Black, Hull City Council portfolio holder for Housing, comments: “This is the second partnership development between the Council, Compendium Living and Riverside on The Leeway, and it is part of the biggest, boldest and most exciting housing regeneration programme undertaken by this Council for more than a generation. Developments like The Leeway not only offer a wider choice of affordable homes, but are giving neighbourhoods a new lease of life as they become more sustainable and better places to live.”

The contemporary, energy-efficient new homes will be built using traditional construction methods and incorporate high levels of insulation to help keep residents’ energy bills down.

The first homes to be built through the Ings regeneration programme – 65 new homes for rent, shared ownership and outright sale – were completed by Lovell in August 2016. Compendium Living is also creating 83 affordable homes for Together Housing, which make up the second phase of the Ings redevelopment. These homes are under construction by Lovell and expected to be completed by March 2018. Overall, the large-scale redevelopment of the Ings area will create 770 new homes as well as new landscaped public open space.

Alongside the new housing, the scheme is providing significant economic benefits investment in the area through the creation of local jobs, the use of local suppliers and the creation of training opportunities.” Lovell has so far trained three apprentices through the Ings programme.
