Clayton-le-Woods pupils put pen to paper to create a book for Lovell Homes

In celebration of World Book Day, Lovell Homes has teamed up with a group of local school children from Lancaster Lane Community Primary School to create a story book raising awareness on the welfare of hedgehogs.

The pupils will help create a book telling the story of a young hedgehog who comes out of hibernation and finds a new home in a garden at Oaktree Grange - Lovell Homes’ development in Clayton-le-Woods.

The Year 1 pupils will write the story over the next month while Lovell Homes collaborates with Lancashire illustrator Nicola Palmer to bring the book to life. The pupils will then see their book published with copies given to each of the budding authors along with extra copies donated to the school.

As hedgehogs begin to come out of hibernation from mid-March, the story book is being created to raise awareness on how the public can help with the wellbeing of hedgehogs and will also highlight the work being carried out at Oaktree Grange to ensure the development is as hedgehog friendly as possible.

Hedgehogs can roam between 1-2km each night so fences between gardens at Oaktree Grange have special holes also known as ‘hedgehog highways’ so they can move freely between gardens which is vital for their survival. In addition to providing hedgehog highways, Lovell Homes will also be providing residents with advice on how to make their gardens as hedgehog-friendly as possible and those buyers reserving homes at the development over the summer will be gifted with a copy of the limited edition book*.

Oaktree Grange is located in a stunning semi-rural location, close to lots of parkland and green spaces which are home to a plethora of wildlife. Given the UK has already lost a third of its hedgehogs since the millennium, access between gardens is becoming increasingly important and Lovell Homes is committed to doing all we can to ensure the survival of the UK’s only spiny mammal. “With World Book Day getting more popular every year we thought it was a fitting way to raise awareness by creating our very own hedgehog story book. We’re very much looking forward to working with Lancaster Lane Community Primary School on this project and seeing the final version in print!

Kaye Gray, Deputy Headteacher at Lancaster Lane Community Primary School said: “We were thrilled when Lovell Homes got in touch asking for help to create their hedgehog story book. Our Year 1 pupils are a creative class who are relishing the opportunity to help write the story, while learning about how to protect our local hedgehog population.”

Thoughtfully-designed and family orientated, Oaktree Grange offers a selection of stylish and contemporary 3, 4 and 5 bedroom homes, priced from £214,995. Located in an established residential area of Clayton-le-Woods, Oaktree Grange is its own small haven, yet situated within easy reach of the motorway network and a short walk from Leyland train station.

Using a wealth of sustainable materials and offering a premium specification, including brand name appliances from Bosch and ceramic tiling from Porcelanosa, Oaktree Grange includes a playground and a wealth of open space, making it an ideal development for growing families.

In addition to the government’s Help to Buy: Equity Loan scheme which is available on all homes at Oaktree Grange, Lovell Homes recently launched a Part Exchange scheme allowing prospective buyers to exchange their old home for a brand-new Lovell home. The scheme which provides movers with a genuine cash buyer, enables purchasers to sidestep the stress and uncertainty associated with a traditional house buying chain, and remove the need for estate agent fees. The scheme is ideal for people looking for more space, who may have previously thought they weren’t in a position to move.

And for those looking to downsize, Lovell’s Helping Hands scheme can also help, with Lovell instructing an estate agent, covering the fees and marketing costs to sell the property in order to break the upward chain.

Oaktree Grange is located in Clayton-Le-Woods, off Dallington Avenue, PR25 5AG. The marketing suite is open 5 days a week, Thursday to Monday, 10am to 5pm. For more information on the part exchange scheme call 01772 507 453, or visit https://www.lovell.co.uk/developments/oaktree-grange-clayton-le-woods/.
