A talented teenager from Hackney carving out a promising construction career with Lovell was a runner-up at this year's National Youthbuilding Awards.
Kesi Fenton, 19, was presented with her award in a ceremony at Westminster Palace.
Sponsored by NHBC, the Youthbuild Awards recognise the accomplishments of young people - many who have overcome difficulties in their lives - at the start of their construction industry careers. Kesi herself left school with no qualifications.
The London region of Lovell spotted the teenager's potential when she applied to become an apprentice plumber with the company three years ago and encouraged her to apply for a position as a management trainee. The teenager, who has wanted to work in construction since she was 16, was inspired by the example of her mother who became a carpenter to support her family.
As a member of the company's national management training programme, the Lovell Management Development Academy, Kesi is gaining experience of the company's different departments before deciding in which area she will specialise. Kesi is also studying for an HNC in Construction at Stephenson College, Coalville, Leicestershire.
"Kesi has made an excellent start to her career with Lovell. We're delighted that her hard work and motivation have been recognised by this award," says Lovell regional director Steve Coombs.
"Winning this award has really put a spring in my step," says Kesi. "It's recognition for how much my mum, Lovell and my colleagues have helped me to get to where I am now."
