ANN AND JOHN ARE HAPPY TO LAND AT WATERSIDE
After eight happy years spent living full-time on board their narrow boat Wagtail, travelling the waterways of Britain, Ann Seymour and John Sharpe had one main wish when they decided to move back to dry land: to live next to water. That wish has been fulfilled by a move to Lovell's Waterside development in Bletchley, a location that the couple had passed regularly as they travelled along the Grand Union Canal.
Ann and John have owned their 60ft narrow boat for over 20 years and about eight years ago decided to rent out the homes they owned in Lincoln to take to the water full time, cruising the canal system. They noticed Waterside, on when Lovell first began to build there and commented then that it would be a good place to live.
Last winter, the couple decided that the time was approaching when they needed to think about a more conventional lifestyle as Ann explains: "We were beginning to find the locks hard work so last winter - in the very worst of the snow - we decided to start looking at properties. We based our search around the Milton Keynes because we have family in the area and we visited as many new developments as possible. We had forgotten about Waterside until I found it on the internet and we went to visit."
Once at Waterside, Ann and John fell in love with a four-bedroom Lynton in a corner position overlooking the canal. Unfortunately, having found the house they liked, they were unable to act. Ann says: "We couldn't reserve the plot because we didn't have our own property in Lincoln on the market at the time. We went away to think about what we wanted to do and decided that it was time to stop beating about the bush and aim for a move. We heard that the plot we liked at Waterside had been sold so we decided to put our house on the market and wait until it was sold before starting to look again."
To the couple's surprise, they received an offer just two days after their house went up for sale, which they decided to turn down because at that time they were in no hurry to sell. Then came the phone call which changed everything. Ann: "We had a call from Waterside to say that the plot we liked was back on the market and were we interested. We got back to the person who had made us the offer, agreed a price and paid our reservation fee."
Having first seen Waterside in the deepest snow, Ann and John moved in on a sunny June day, mooring their narrow boat right outside their new home so that they could move their things in. The first to pass judgement on the change of surroundings was their cat who strolled over from the boat, inspected the house and gave it the "paws up".
Ann concludes: "Having admired Waterside from the canal over the last three to four years, we are now very happy to be living here - it's as though this was meant to be our home. We had wonderful service from Lovell and everyone has been very helpful in making our move happen and ensuring that everything has gone smoothly for us."
The home Ann and John chose is a four-bedroom Lynton, a three-storey home with an excellent range of spacious accommodation. A special feature of its design is one of the top-floor bedrooms which has a private balcony across one corner.
Still available at Waterside is a choice of four-bedroom homes, including one Lynton which, like Ann and John's enjoys a canalside position. Prices range from £244,950 to £249.950.
