Lovell invites pupils to name Cwmbran street

Children at Blenheim Road Community Primary School, Cwmbran, have named a new street created as part of a major regeneration scheme in their neighbourhood.

Housing developer Lovell, which is building the new Blenheim Chase development in St Dials, asked pupils at the school to vote on a shortlist of names for the new road. The winning choice, Thorncliffe Road, was selected by eight - and nine-year-olds at the school as their favourite.

"The pupils loved being involved in naming the new street," says deputy head teacher Tracy French. "They have been learning about materials and buildings so to be able to visit the construction project and choose the name of the street tied in nicely with their studies, as well as giving them a sense of ownership regarding the regeneration."

"We've been working with Blenheim Road Community Primary throughout the regeneration programme," says Lovell community development officer Gemma Davies. "The pupils have been so enthusiastic, it was great to get them involved with the street naming." The name chosen, Thorncliffe Road, links to the area's past and the former Thorncliffe Court flats which previously stood on part of the regeneration site.

Lovell has organised a number of supervised visits for children at the school to see the construction work at Blenheim Chase. The development is being driven by a partnership of the local business community, residents, local housing organisations Fairlake and Charter Housing (both part of Seren Group), Torfaen County Borough Council and Lovell. Overall, there will be 53 new homes for sale, affordable rent and affordable home ownership. The scheme has included the demolition of the former Blenheim Square shopping precinct and the creation of new shops.

Lovell recently released the much-anticipated second phase of new homes for sale at Blenheim Chase. Following the success of phase one, the development continues to attract strong interest, with a five per cent deposit paid offer on selected properties making it even more affordable.

Homes currently offered include the Sutton, two-bedroom house style, which starts at £120,000 and would make an ideal first-time buy. The mews-style property, with allocated parking, features kitchen, cloakroom, hall and a spacious living / dining room on the ground-floor while upstairs is the bathroom and two bedrooms. Lovell is also offering its Weston two-bedroom house style, at £122,000.

For homebuyers looking for more space, the Cwm Avon three-bedroom mews-style home, with parking, is available from £159,995. This stylish family home offers a ground floor with spacious living room, an attractive kitchen / dining room with French doors to the garden, cloakroom and hall. Upstairs is the bathroom, master bedroom and two additional bedrooms. Lovell also has its three-bedroom Moreton house style, with parking, at £155,000.

Close to the town centre and train station, Blenheim Chase is also well-placed for the A4051, which links to the M4, and has an excellent choice of schools close by.
