Lovell scooped the award for its work on an £15 million, five-year housing improvement programme it is carrying out for Valleys to Coast in Bridgend, which will see 5,000 homes refurbished to the Welsh Housing Quality Standard.
This is the second time that Lovell has been rewarded for its work on Valleys to Coast’s housing improvement programme. The company also received a silver award from the Considerate Constructors Scheme for the project in 2007. To win the silver award for a second time, Lovell demonstrated its commitment to the Considerate Constructors Scheme code of practice which requires the company to show sensitivity to the local community and environment, display outstanding levels of health and safety, and liaise closely with local residents at all times. The Considerate Constructors Scheme praised the strong relationship Lovell has established with local residents during the improvement works. Residents are visited on a daily basis by members of the Lovell resident liaison team when work is in progress to ensure that they are kept fully informed and to ensure that any disruption to their day-to-day activities is kept to a minimum. Lovell employs an average of 40 people in its site team with over 90% coming from the Bridgend area. The company has taken on apprentices and provided work experience for trainees from local colleges and established links with local schools, carrying out a number of health and safety talks to raise pupils’ awareness. Lovell has also helped a number of residents associations by refurbishing local community buildings and a youth club in the areas that they have worked in.
