Two new apprentices welcomed to Cannock development

Lovell has celebrated National Apprenticeship Week by announcing that it will take on two apprentices this month.

The apprentices will work on both refurbishment of council housing for Cannock Chase District Council and also Lovell’s new development in partnership with Waterloo Housing on Elizabeth Road, where 150 new homes are to be built.

Lovell’s new apprentice bricklayer and apprentice carpenter will be the latest in a number of apprentices the company has taken on recently. Over the past couple of years, while many employers have stalled their recruitment and apprenticeship programmes because of the recession, Lovell in the Midlands has continued to recruit apprentices across the trades. Not only has this ensured Lovell has a steady flow of high-quality tradespeople but it has also helped boost local employment and raise community aspirations.

The apprentices will help build the 150 new homes that will soon transform the Elizabeth Road estate in Cannock. The first phase of building on the £15 million project has begun, with the first 50 homes to be completed by the summer. These will feature 36 homes for rent, as well as homes to buy through shared ownership and to buy outright on the open market.

A further 100 affordable and attractive new homes, for both rent and sale, will follow, providing a huge boost to the area’s environment and local economy.
