Lovell invests in local student

A partnership between Lovell and Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) has achieved further success with the appointment of a local university student to Lovell, after his 13-week summer placement with the affordable housing specialist.

Morgan Pike, aged 26, has been hired as a trainee quantity surveyor at Lovell and will work from the Birkenhead office on the company’s housing developments across the Merseyside area.

Morgan, who is from Formby, Liverpool, is currently completing a degree in Quantity Surveying at LJMU. He will study whilst fulfilling his new full-time role at Lovell and is due to finish his course in the summer of 2013.

The appointment of Morgan is the latest success story for Lovell and its training and employment initiatives, which are among the strongest in the area. Over 10 apprentices are employed at Lovell developments in Merseyside, and many previous apprentices like them have gone on to well-paying jobs in the construction industry. The Lovell management trainee programme has also witnessed great success with the latest six recruits all recently receiving promotions.

Morgan says: “The summer placement was extremely valuable and as far as gaining experience goes, I couldn’t have asked for more from Lovell. I was trusted with a variety of tasks and managed to gain an insight into all aspects of the job.

“Coming in to the company with limited experience means that everything I do and learn is worthwhile. Lovell has been fantastic in giving me a wide range of projects to undertake and I’m eager to carry on learning from the senior members of the team and progress as quickly as possible.”

The company values are centred around developing local communities and leaving a lasting legacy, which includes recruiting locally and making a positive impact on the local economy.

Nigel Yates, regional director at Lovell says: “Morgan is an asset to our team and it is great to see someone with such drive and enthusiasm prosper within this industry.

“Apprenticeships add value to our business, and the successful partnership we have with LJMU is something we are looking forward to developing further in the future.”
