Lovell is celebrating after Birmingham City Council's Housing department won two of the top national housing awards in the UK. Lovell is a key partner of the Council’s Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust (BMHT), which won the overall prize at the UK Housing Awards because, according to judges, ‘it delivers hundreds of affordable but high-quality new homes each year’. The winners of the 2011 UK Housing Awards were announced by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and Inside Housing magazine at a ceremony presented by Michael Portillo at the Park Lane Hilton in London on 9 November. CIH President Helen Collins said: “We were so impressed with the high calibre of the finalists in all of the categories this year, but special congratulations go to our winners, Birmingham City Council, who have demonstrated the amazing difference that building great quality, affordable homes can make to people and communities.” David Gough, regional director of Lovell in the Midlands, said, “We’re delighted – both for Lovell and also for our client, Birmingham City Council. The Council has been rewarded for its bold thinking, while we are delighted that the quality of the homes we build and the service we offer have helped secure this highly prestigious award. For Birmingham City Council to be judged by its peers as having the most outstanding housing in the whole of the UK is an extraordinary accolade. These developments have been of great importance to the city of Birmingham. Being based in Birmingham ourselves, it gives us great pride to be involved.” Established in January 2009, Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust currently has 1,340 homes already completed or in various stages of construction, and has secured dozens of apprenticeships for local young people in the construction industry. |
