Lovell and the Toxteth Ten celebrate success with the Wah Sing Chinese Community Project

Last night, the Toxteth Ten were announced the winners of the Community Impact Award at this year’s North West Celebrate Success Awards for the Prince’s Trust.

In February this year, Lovell worked in partnership with the Prince’s Trust and Liverpool Fire and Rescue Service to improve the Wah Sing community Centre for the local Liverpool Chinese community.

As part of the Prince’s Trust Team programme, a committed group of young people called the Toxteth Ten chose to work on the Wah Sing improvement project. The award recognised not only their help with the refurbishment and their excellent relations with the community, but also the skills they learned while working on the project.

Before the project began the kitchen had become unusable, unsafe and wasn’t up to Health & Safety standards. With the help of Lovell, the group completely refurbished the kitchen and the first floor of the community centre in time for the Chinese New Year.

George Shaw, project manager at Lovell, has been heavily involved with the project since the beginning: “Projects such as this have a positive impact on both those involved and people living in the surrounding area. It has been a pleasure to work with such a lovely group of young people, and this award is testament to all of their hard work.”

Nigel Yates, regional director at Lovell says: “We are a company very much committed to working with communities to improve their social and economic outlook. This project is a great example of our ongoing dedication to working with local people to help create a community we are all happy to live in and proud to be a member of.”
