Local students learn how to build as part of housing skills initiative |

Housing and regeneration specialist Lovell taught year 10 pupils from Farnborough School Technology College in Nottingham how to build a giant tetrahedron this week, as part of an initiative to teach valuable skills to students.
Louise Hawkings from Education Business Futures says: “The aim of the day was to raise awareness of the importance of developing employability skills for the world of work. This will ultimately enable the students to become aware of their own level of skills, and identify which will help them in the workplace.” Representatives from Lovell taught the students how to build a tetrahedron – the basic shape of building - out of plastic pipes and rubber bands. They were then fitted together for the students to stand in, as part of an enormous climbing frame made from their own tetrahedron shapes. The students were proud of what they had accomplished and took delight in displaying their newly acquired skills. Lovell regional director Noel Adams says: “We were delighted to be asked to take part in such a valuable event, teaching students skills they may need for the future but in a fun and interactive way. Not only does this raise awareness of the importance of developing employability skills for the workplace, it also engages the pupils in potential future careers within the industry.” |

The employer-led Business, Enterprise and Employability Schools Day was organised by Education Business Futures, which invited Lovell to come and share its expertise in a fun-filled way for the pupils, to help them learn skills they can use in the workplace.
