Local children taught play safe message |

Lovell, the affordable housing specialist based in Cardiff has given local school children a lesson in how to stay safet around its building sites. Lovell is currently working on its new community-focused development of 53 homes, Maes Halley, at Parc Dewi Sant, Lanfaes, Brecon. A total of 220 four to eleven year olds at Llanfaes Community Primary in Brecon were split into two groups and taught the dangers of playing on building works, by Lovell health, safety and environment officer Tom Davies. They then watched a fun, instructive DVD and were given the chance to design a poster reflecting what they had learnt. Tom explains: “Children are often attracted to building sites as they can look like an adventure playground so it is vital that Lovell takes on the responsibility for educating these youngsters about the very real dangers that sites pose to them.” Lovell regularly works with local people to ensure that its developments enhance local communities. This latest event builds on Lovell’s record in Wales of working successfully with the community to ensure that it is a considerate constructor. Llanfaes Community Primary School’s headmistress, Karen Lawrence says: “The visit from Lovell helped to underline to the children that building sites are not playgrounds. The message really hit home with our pupils.” In June this year, Lovell’s South Wales’ division was awarded a Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Gold Award recognising its excellent health and safety management systems and accident record. Lovell is building 53 brand new two, three and four-bedroom homes for sale, as well as 16 affordable homes for rent in partnership with Wales & West Housing Association (WWHA) at Maes Halley, at Parc Dewi Sant, Llanfaes, Brecon. |
