Affordable housing and regeneration specialist Lovell has teamed up with pupils from Hillington Primary School in Glasgow for an Eco Day, which saw the school awarded the prestigious Green Flag in recognition of its sustainability work. The Eco Schools Programme is an international programme involving 47 countries and Hillington Primary has been involved for the past three years. In recognition of being awarded the Green Flag, teachers organised the Eco Day for pupils, other schools and the local community to enjoy. Each class displayed some of their eco work, such as recycled jewellery and bookmarks, as well as growing seeds for the plant stall including sunflowers, sweetcorn and tomatoes. Lovell donated and installed the pole for Hillington Primary’s first Eco Schools Green Flag at the school to enable its success to be shared with the local community. Local schemes which Lovell has been involved with include renovation of housing surrounding Hillington Primary School. The company also worked with Glasgow Housing Association and South Side Housing Association on a £5 million project to externally refurbish Hartlaw Deck Access in Chirnside. Alan Taylor, regional director at Lovell, says: “We have worked with Hillington Primary on a number of initiatives in the past and were more than happy to help when we heard they had been awarded a Green Flag for their commitment to the environment. Our local community is at the heart of Lovell so we always like to help out where we can.” Jacqueline Findlay, deputy head teacher at Hillington Primary School, says: “The children really enjoyed the different activities we had planned for the Eco Day and it was great to see them caring for their environment. Lovell generously donated and installed the pole for our Green Flag, and as always the staff were extremely helpful.” |
