Big spring clean at Moffat Way |

Lovell teamed up with pupils from Niddrie Mill Primary School in Edinbrugh this week for the Big Spring Clean at Moffat Way. The initiative aimed to educate pupils about the importance of not dropping litter, recycling and other environmental issues. Pupils and teachers from the school, and staff from the Lovell site at Parc Craigmillar spent the day tidying up the area around Moffat Way and the school playground. Health and safety is high on the agenda at Lovell and to ensure pupils were kept safe during the big clean up, pairs of children's gloves and bags were donated to protect pupils. Children received 'sharps awareness' training on the dangers of sharp objects so that they all knew to inform an adult if they found anything such as broken glass. Lovell is currently working on a £5.5 million development project at Parc Craigmillar, which has involved the construction of 58 new homes with an expected completion date of 12th August 2011. Alan Taylor, regional director at Lovell, says: "Building communities is at the heart of what Lovell does. Part of this includes ensuring our residents have a pleasant place to live. We always like to get involved in community initiatives, especially any schemes that involve local schools, and projects initiatives like this are a fantastic way of getting children involved in caring for their environment." Kirsty Robinson, class teacher at Niddrie Mill Primary School, says: "The children really enjoyed working out of the classroom and it was great to see them developing a greater interest in their local environment. We have worked with Lovell on a number of initiatives in the past and they are always extremely helpful and supportive." |
