150 new homes for Cannock

Lovell has been chosen by Waterloo Housing Association, part of Waterloo Housing Group, to build the 150 new homes that will soon transform the Elizabeth Road estate in Cannock.

Lovell is adding its development expertise to the successful partnership between Waterloo, Cannock Chase Council and the government’s Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), which has already taken forward the extensive housing regeneration project including clearing vacant old properties in the first phase ready for the £15 million new build.

The project has the support of HCA funding through the Kickstart programme, aimed at high-quality housing schemes affected by market conditions.

Building work by Lovell starts in August to construct the first 50 new homes by spring 2012. These will feature 36 homes for rent, as well as homes to buy through shared ownership and to buy outright on the open market.

A further 100 affordable and attractive new homes, for both rent and sale, will follow, providing a huge boost to the area’s environment and local economy.

David Gough, regional director for Lovell in the Midlands, comments: “This is a wonderful opportunity to recreate this community and we look forward to working closely with local people, as well as Waterloo, Cannock Council and the HCA, in order to ensure we create a tight-knit new neighbourhood enjoying top-quality new homes. This project will bring a healthy mix of homes for affordable rent and home ownership.

“We will build the new homes in four phases so we will be in constant liaison with residents to ensure disruption is minimal. I am certain that they will be delighted with the results.”

Cllr Frank Allen, Cannock Chase Council Housing Portfolio Holder, says: “I am absolutely delighted that building work is getting under way. The redevelopment is going to bring a transformation to the Elizabeth Road estate. It will be unrecognisable, with quality homes, parking, play areas and open space. I would like to thank again Waterloo and the Homes and Communities Agency. I would also like to pay tribute to the residents who have and are still living on the estate in very difficult circumstances.”

Jeff Sharnock, chairman of Waterloo Housing Association, adds: “We warmly welcome Lovell as our private development partner for this exciting and transformational housing project.  The collective strength of the partnership demonstrates the drive, confidence and expectations we have for making such a positive impact on the Elizabeth Road area and the lives of local people.”

Pele Bedward, investment and regeneration manager for the HCA, says: “We are pleased that our investment is helping to bring about positive change for the area and the local community, and look forward to seeing the first bricks being laid at this much needed regeneration scheme.”

The new homes for sale will be available to buy off-plan shortly, including two, three and four-bedroom homes.
