Pride in Camp Hill

Pride in Camp Hill is a large, ambitious project that is regenerating and revitalising the Camp Hill area. Housing and commercial development are part of a range of initiatives focusing on physical improvements, health, education, training and community involvement.

Lovell is working on the £30 million second phase of the major housing regeneration development, building 227 homes for sale, affordable rent and shared ownership. We have also built eight new shops in the heart of the Village Centre and a landmark community and youth centre in addition to the 172 new homes created in the first phase of the regeneration.

Camp Hill was originally built in the 1950s to house miners working in the nearby coalfields, but the housing was of poor quality and, in certain areas, badly laid out.  Unemployment after the demise of the mining industry brought on abandonment; the area struggled to get back on its feet due to high crime levels and low skills.

Pride in Camp Hill was launched in 1999 and has achieved major social and economic regeneration success, including numerous awards. £200m of public and private investment has resulted in 1,239 homes (of which 25% are affordable) and the new village centre with retail and community buildings. Pride in Camp Hill was inspired by residents and has resident board members from the area’s Residents Forum which intends to manage the estate long-term.

High achiever

Phase 1 has a standard of Eco Homes Good. Phases 2 and 3 are built to Eco Homes Very Good with a minimum energy rating of NHER 9. Phase 3 achieves a minimum of Building for Life silver standard, and also Lifetime Homes standard; all phases conform to the principles of Secure by Design.

Compared with 1999/2000, 2009/10 saw a reduction of 82% in domestic burglary, 78% in vehicle theft and 71% in arson.

A local employment project - CHEERS – is funded by Pride in Camp Hill and helps local people find jobs, change career or set up social enterprises.
