Lovell has built the first council house in Birmingham for 30 years. Working with newly-created Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust, we built 33 homes at Pershore Road, Balsall Heath as part of the BMHT’s 553-home new build programme.

The 33 new homes are a range of 2, 3 and 4-bed properties, all of which have a range of sustainable features (CfSH Level 4) to ensure their impact on the environment is minimal but savings on bills for the new tenants are maximized. The second phase of house building, which Lovell has some involvement in, began in March 2010, and will deliver 164 homes for rent and outright sale in Ladywood, Egg Hill, Saltley, Northfield, Soho and Ley Hill by March 2012. Lovell has also begun work on phase three homes in Ingoldsby, which will also be completed by 2012.The formation of the council’s Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust in 2009 represented the most radical change in direction of council house building policy in a generation. Councillor John Lines made a pledge at the time to deliver 500 new homes; this was during the onset of the recession and at a time when councils were collectively only delivering 375 new homes across the country (2008).As part of the council’s drive to address worklessness, Lovell also provides apprenticeship opportunities to local young people.

Councillor John Lines, Cabinet Member for Housing

“As a local company, we’re extremely proud to be working alongside Birmingham City Council and the HCA on this landmark project. All of the houses and flats at the development are being built to a high specification and they will help to address the urgent need for energy-efficient affordable homes in the region.”
