Strategic importance

The last major site in Tower Hamlets Housing Association Trust's redevelopment programme, Yallops Yard forms part of the strategically important Leaside Regeneration Area, part of the Thames Gateway. Lovell London was selected as preferred bidder, following a competition process.

Following the award of the contract, Lovell pursued an extensive period of public consultation, enabling a scheme to be designed which had the support of the local community prior to the planning application being made. One of the principal requirements of the Heads of Terms was that the scheme had to receive approval of the Tower Hamlets Housing Action Trust (HAT). For this consultation, the HAT utilised the services of CABE, the government's advisor on architecture, urban design and public space.

The resulting development, on a brownfield site, provided 262 new houses and flats for open market sale, rent and shared ownership. Dwellings ranged from one-bedroom flats to six-bedroom houses, including a semi-basement car park and medium-rise residential blocks of up to 11 storeys in height.

This scheme demonstrates our ability to carry out large-scale, mixed-tenure, high-density projects.
