Description
The project was procured on a negotiated basis that enabled our estimating and design department to identify key risks right from the very beginning with areas such as soil contamination, foundation design and demolition of existing buildings being closely investigated up front and surveys undertaken.
The project involved the demolition of an existing care home in a residential area of Norwich where there was a high interest from the local community. Whilst carrying out a pre‐commencement survey of the trees, we encountered one tree identified for removal with a commemorative plaque attached. The tree in question had been planted by the local Girl Guide group when the original scheme was build in the early 1970's. We were able to locate the original girl guide troop and leader and a tree moving ceremony took place which was attended by members of the local community, the press and girl guide members old and new!
This was also a scheme that involved collaborative working with Social Services and as they started to identify their end users it became apparent that each individual had their own needs and requirements i.e. automatic door openers, specialist clo‐o‐matic toilets, additional hoists etc. Due to previous experience and detailed design meetings we managed to foresee these future requirements and had the flexibility to change the design to incorporate the Client's requests.
