The environment |

Environmental considerations cover a vast range of subjects on site. As part of our ISO 14001-certified policies, we consider the impact and control of issues on site such as: noise and vibration, water, archaeology, wildlife and natural features, dust, emissions and odours. We also adhere to the Considerate Constructors Scheme, meaning we keep our sites as clean, safe and quiet as possible. On a corporate level, we now record data on a vast range of environmental subjects, from the proportion of waste diverted from landfill to the CO2 emissions from the vehicle fleet. The futureWe are also looking to the future. We have completed developments that benefit from advanced environmentally-friendly technology that delivers significant savings for housing associations and residents. The environment is not an isolated consideration. It is fundamental to everything we do. We seek to minimise our impact on the environment and we take active steps to make a positive contribution too. Sustainable constructionFrom a global outlook, it means we are committed to sustainable construction, which not only reduces the impact on natural resources but also benefits residents who inherit a building with enhanced thermal performance, low-energy lighting and white goods, and efficient water usage. From a local perspective, it means that recreational and ecological areas are crucial to our designs, as are facilities to enable more sustainable lifestyles, such as safe walking routes, cycle storage and proximity to bus services. We are constantly assessing not only the materials we buy but also how we buy them, considering issues such as travelling times, fuel used and waste created. These principles apply equally to refurbishment as well as new build: old fixtures and fittings will be sold on or recycled where possible. |
