Community

Communities are integral to what our business does. Therefore we work with them with care and consideration in order reach our common goals.

Considerate Constructor Awards

The number of Considerate Constructor Awards we have won demonstrates that we do everything in our power to ensure the communities we work in are inconvenienced as little as possible, kept safe at all times, and positively benefit from our presence. Those positive benefits come not only from the construction of homes, community buildings and leisure facilities, but also from the employment of local labour.

Local employment

We try to employ local people where possible and regularly take on apprentices who go on to have successful careers in the trades. In areas where unemployment is a problem, this is a real boost to the community. In addition, we work with schools to introduce the pupils to careers in construction, as well as conveying the all-important messages about site safety.

Consultation with residents

Consultation with residents can begin a long time before work starts, with residents sometimes involved during the contractors list selection and on design and specification issues. During regeneration projects, we are in constant contact with residents, especially where they continue to live at home during the refurbishment work. Working in people's homes, we cause as little disruption as possible and always leave them with a clean home each evening. We ensure roads are cleaned and are not jammed up with parked construction vehicles. These are standards to which our contractors and sub-contractors must keep.

Local community projects

Our work within communities goes far further than the occasional school visit. We get involved with local projects and sponsor local good causes, such as fitting out a community centre or providing a new football pitch. If there is a way we can make a community stronger, prouder and more likely to thrive in the years to come, then we will do it.
