What is an apprenticeship? |
|
Apprenticeships are made up of the following elements:
All trainees completing apprenticeship programmes will be awarded the relevant NVQ, Key Skills, technical certificate, as well as the Apprenticeship Certificate from the relevant Sector Skills Council. There are two levels of apprenticeship: Foundation (FA) and Advanced (AA). In Wales, the AA equivalents are called Modern Apprenticeships. Apprenticeships in England are available up to the age of 24. In addition, applicants who will be aged 19 or over at the start of their apprenticeship will only be considered if they apply with details of an employer such as Lovell willing to employ them throughout the Apprenticeship Programme. If you are over 24, Lovell offers the same quality training as an apprenticeship but it is called Adult Construction Training. The Scottish Building Apprenticeship Training Council Scheme provides you with a commitment to employment and training over a four-year period. Structured training leading to an SVQ Level 2 specialist/civil apprenticeship or SVQ Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship.

Apprenticeships are a mixture of work-based training and education. Becoming an apprentice allows learners to have a job, to earn a wage and to receive structured training in their chosen occupation. Lovell apprentices are fully employed and attend college on block release for about ten weeks each year.
