Is an apprenticeship right for you?

People who do well in an apprenticeship tend to be focused and know the career they want. It's not just about seeing what apprenticeships are out there and then randomly picking one.

To do well on an apprenticeship, you need to be prepared to work hard. You might have to commit yourself to one, two or even five years of training and further study, depending on what you decide to do.

Can you commit to at least one or two years of training? If not, an apprenticeship may not be the right choice for you. If you have some construction work experience, it will improve your chances of being accepted.

To get on an apprenticeship, you'll have to show you're serious, committed, and aware of your responsibilities to both yourself and the company. You also need to be happy to work as both part of a team and as an individual, and be able to use your own initiative.

Thank you to the Learning and Skills Council for providing some of the information on this page.
