What does your job involve?

I co-ordinate and manage the whole design process, including managing both internal and external design consultants, attending land reviews, taking pre-start and progress meetings. I go on site visits to view new land and to see what our competitors are doing. I study and appraise the layouts that have been designed and I prepare and submit planning applications, as well as having many discussions with planning and highway officers.

What qualifications did you start your career with?

  • 4 O Levels (not good grades - I will always remember my parents saying that if I didn't try harder I would regret it later in life. How true those few words were!)

What qualifications have you gained while in this job?

  • ONC (two years)

  • HNC (two years)

You can also progress to architecture school on a part time basis to achieve RIBA, although that route takes 10 years.

What is the salary for this job?

£42,000 - £58,000 

What will be the next stage of your career?

To continue in this role and have more success in winning new schemes.
