Lovell loyalty

Lovell is more than happy to reward loyal and committed employees with significant investments in their careers, as evidenced by the progress of East Midlands office employee, Tom Spink.

Tom first became involved with the company when Lovell approached his school to offer its mentoring programme to a number of pupils. Tom was selected for the programme and spent a day a week at the Lovell office in Nottingham for two years, where he got involved in many different projects, including helping to design showhome interiors and numerous site visits. He says he was made to feel very welcome and, having learned a little about the organisation, was keen to stay involved.

Next, Tom applied to take an apprenticeship with the company and was accepted to complete his NVQ Level 2 in Building Maintenance. He achieved the NVQ and then applied to take a BTEC in Construction at the Lovell specialist training facility, Stephenson College in Leicestershire. Having recently successfully completed the BTEC, Tom has now been accepted on the Lovell management training programme and is undertaking an HNC, a course Tom has recognised as a real step up in terms of work and commitment.

After a number of years with company, Tom is clear that he wants to focus on site management and is already becoming more and more independent as he assists another site manager at the company. He hopes that completion of the HNC may lead to a general foreman job, with an ultimate ambition of being a site manager. He may even be able to take a degree with backing from Lovell. He is looking forward to working with Lovell for years to come and repaying the company's commitment to him.
